Sheryl Higgs - Manager and Trustee

Manager, Designated Safeguarding Lead, setting ENCO, Health and Safety officer and Keyworker

Children’s Learning and Development NVQ Level 4, 3 & 2

Early Years Educator

Speech, language and communication QCF level 3

I have worked in childcare since 2003, starting as a Childminder, so as to stay at home with my own two children. I then took a role in a local setting, as a preschool assistant.

Through my many years working in the Early years sector, I undertook training, qualified and gained experience, working my way up to this position, as a manager. I joined Court Fields Preschool in September 2016.

I specialised in SEND (Special educational needs and disabilities) including Behaviour, focusing on children’s speech and language.

I love to share stories, dance, sing songs and join in activities, with the children. I can be dramatic, loud and am full of fun, engaging children, gaining their attention and imagination. I love my job as children amaze me in how they see the world and in what they can do and achieve.

I am a creative person and love to draw and make up rhymes. At home I love to go on walks with my two dogs, watch a good film and now am into gardening. I have recently, with my husband, renovated a van and enjoy weekends away even though at heart I am a home bird.

Sophie Darch - Deputy Manager/SENCO

Deputy Manager, Deputy Safeguarding, setting SENCO, Behaviour coordinator and Keyworker

Early Learning and childcare QCF level 3 & 2

SENCO L3

I have worked in childcare since 2010. I started working in a nursery after college, with my level 2 qualification, and I have never looked back. I completed my level 3 through an apprenticeship.

I decided to work with pre-school aged children to help them become more confident and ready for starting school, and this was the ideal job whilst I raise my own daughter, I love my job.

I worked my way up to become a deputy manager in 2016 and am very proud of how far I have come in my Early Years career. I continued to train and have now completed a specialised SENCO L3 qualification for supporting children’s Individual needs.

I have a wealth of experience and knowledge in supporting children and their families, through my SENCO role, to support children with special educational needs and children’s behaviour.

I love to sing, dance and share stories, but I am also known for sparking imagination and can often be found in role and imaginative play, off with the children on fantastic adventures.

The children know me for my love of chocolate cake.

Sammy Clapham - Keyworker

Early Childhood studies BA Hons & Foundation degree

Public services BTEC level 3

After my daughter was born I decided that working with children was something I wanted to do. When she turned one I began my degree in Early Childhood Studies and completed many placements, one of which turned in to me staying on and working at a preschool.

In 2014 I came to Court Fields and absolutely love working here. I enjoy seeing how the children progress and grow and making special relationships with them, focusing one to one and in small group play, talking to children.

I have a nurturing nature and am calm and quiet, I am always found engaged in play led by the children, sharing special moments.

I have now returned to the job I love following the birth of my second daughter, in 2020. I love being outside going on walks and going to the park.

Kelly Wescott - Keyworker

Early learning and childcare studies NVQ level 3 & 2

I started working in a preschool, in 2009, when my daughter, my youngest of two, was there.

Since then I have gained qualifications in childcare.

I have spent many years supporting children with SEND, working one to one and focusing on specific needs and outcomes.

I enjoy building close relationships with the children and celebrating their achievements, however big or small, with the families.

I am known for my fun vibrant personality and being crazy as a box of frogs. You only need to look at our videos to see my fun nature.

I love being outside with my children, walking with my dogs, in nature, be it by the river, in the woods or my favourite place, at the beach.

I have recently increased my role to become a keyworker and I really enjoy this as it have grown my relationships with both the children and their families to support their development and growth.

Kelsie Hack - Keyworker

Level 2 Childcare studies

I started working at Court Fields Pre-school, in September 2022.

I joined the setting as a Level 2 Apprentice and am now completing my Level 3.

Having younger siblings I knew that I wanted to work with children.

I have loved getting to know and understand all the children’s different personalities and watching then develop and grow and now have my own Keychildren.

I love being with my family and have a calm, kind and caring nature.

Each child is assigned a key person before they start their learning journey with us.

Their role is to help ensure that every child’s care is tailored to meet their individual needs, to help the child become familiar with the setting, developing a relationship with the child and with their parents.

Your keyworker will support your child and you (family/carers). They will support and guide children and families through induction, settling in and throughout the remainder of their time with us. They will be working in partnership, building relationships, communicating and planning for the child to improve outcomes and meet individual needs.

Your Keyworker is your main point of contact.

The keyworker is part of a key family, who is available when your keyworker is not. All the members of staff will support and develop relationships with the child making observations and assessments along with the keyworker to build a bigger picture of the child’s learning and developmental journey. We share this information through staff discussions, where all of the children’s achievements, development and individual needs are discussed. All of the information will be shared with parents.

Our Key Families are:

Sheryl, Amy, Sammy, Sandy and Lauren.

Sophie, Kelly, Lucy, Kelsie and Sonya.
